Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to complete an application?

Yes. All interested applicants must complete a volunteer application and waiver in order to volunteer.

Is there an age requirement?

Our volunteer opportunities are best suited for persons 16 years of age and older. We do, however, have group projects that would be suited for individuals younger than 16.

Do you conduct background checks?

Yes, all of our community volunteers are subject to a national criminal records check.

What type of training do volunteers receive?

Before training, all volunteers receive a one-hour orientation session to learn about Whitefoord Community Program’s mission, history and community. In this session, volunteers also learn about Whitefoord’s volunteer policies and procedures. Training will vary based on the area in which you are volunteering. However, in each area, the program director or coordinator will provide training for your particular volunteer role.

What should I wear?

We ask that you dress similar to our Whitefoord staff – business casual. On Fridays only, you may wear jeans if you like.

Where do I need to park?

There are parking spaces available along George W. Brumley Way (formerly Dupont Avenue) and in the parking lot behind our Administrative office. The parking lot can be accessed from Leslie Avenue.

Do I have to be on site to volunteer?

No, we have several volunteer opportunities that do not require you to come to the Whitefoord campus. For example, you might do a press release for one of our events, write a grant for one of our programs, or design graphics or marketing materials for us. There are many things that you can assist us with that do not require onsite time.

Do you give community service hours?

Yes, we work with schools to provide community service hours for youth and interns.

Can you accommodate volunteers with disabilities?

Yes. However, to ensure a successful experience, please contact our office in advance to discuss accommodations needed.

Can I come for just an hour or two?

Most often, yes. It simply depends on the volunteer opportunity you choose. There are many volunteer opportunities that can be accomplished in an hour or two, or even less! Just be honest about the time you can commit to volunteering with us and we will work to accommodate your needs!
