The Whitefoord Story
In 1994, Dr. George W. Brumley and his former student, Dr. Veda Johnson, opened a health clinic inside Whitefoord Elementary School to address the urgent healthcare needs of children and families in southeast Atlanta. Dr. Brumley believed that healthy children are better able to learn, grow, and succeed—a principle that shaped Whitefoord’s early vision.
As the organization evolved, it expanded beyond healthcare to address the broader needs of the community. In 1998, Dr. Brumley and his wife, Jean, launched the Child Development Program to increase access to high-quality early education for young children while supporting working families.
Over the next two decades, Whitefoord grew into a trusted provider of both healthcare and early childhood services. In 2012, it opened its first Family Medical Center in Kirkwood, followed by the Whitefoord Health Center in Edgewood in 2020, expanding access to comprehensive, community-based care.
Today, Whitefoord has entered a new chapter. Its health center operations have merged with MedCura Health, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality, affordable healthcare for the community.
Whitefoord now operates as a freestanding nonprofit focused on early childhood education through the Whitefoord Early Learning Academy. Located in the former Whitefoord Elementary School building, the Academy provides high-quality, nurturing childcare and early education for children from infancy through Pre-K—serving as the foundation for lifelong learning and family stability.
Rooted in more than 30 years of service, Whitefoord continues to evolve to meet the needs of children and families—recognizing that early learning, family support, and community connection are essential to long-term success.
